It's a side effect of how the game saves are handled. If you log in it creates a saves folder with your xbox live account ID, so it no longer appears that you have any save games. You can get around this by closing the warning, saving the game, logging in / updating and then copying the save game into the folder. It's a nuisance but not Grand Theft Auto GTA 4 saves
